Nike officially debuted its first-ever neuroscience-based footwear line, the Nike Mind platform, on January 8, 2026. Developed by Nike’s newly formed Mind Science Department after more than a decade of research, the collection features two distinct silhouettes: the Mind 001 mule and the Mind 002 sneaker.
The technology is specifically engineered to “lock in” an athlete’s mindset before and after competition by amplifying sensory feedback rather than blocking it. Key technical features include:
Sensory Activation: Each shoe contains 22 independent foam nodes bonded to a flexible, water-resistant base.
Piston Movement: These nodes act like pistons and gimbals, anatomically mapped to pressure points on the foot to stimulate mechanoreceptors that activate sensory areas of the brain.
Grounding Sensation: The tactile interaction is designed to clear mental “noise,” helping wearers feel more present, focused, and resilient during pre-game routines.
Barefoot Protection: The design provides the high-sensation benefits of being barefoot while maintaining the support and protection of a performance shoe.
Manchester City star Erling Haaland was among the primary athletes to test the tech, noting that it helps bring “balance” to his game by keeping him grounded in his body. While the Mind 001 mule retails for $90–$95, the more traditional Mind 002 sneaker is priced at $145.
The launch marks a major shift for the brand, moving beyond purely physical performance into what Chief Science Officer Dr. Matthew Nurse calls the “next frontier”: the brain-body connection.
