‘General Hospital’ Star Anthony Geary Passes Away at 78 Following Surgery

Anthony Geary, the actor forever associated with Luke Spencer on General Hospital, has reportedly died at the age of 78, according to statements attributed to ABC and multiple media outlets.

In a message shared by the network, ABC expressed its condolences, noting that Geary’s portrayal of Luke Spencer helped shape both General Hospital and the broader landscape of daytime television. His performance turned the character into one of the most recognizable figures in soap opera history.

Reports indicate that Geary passed away in Amsterdam following complications linked to a planned surgical procedure he had undergone just days earlier. No further details were immediately released.

Geary’s career spanned more than four decades, during which he earned an extraordinary eight Daytime Emmy Awards for his work on General Hospital. He first joined the long-running series in 1978, quickly transforming Luke Spencer into a cultural phenomenon.

His on-screen partnership with Genie Francis, who played Laura Webber Baldwin, became one of television’s most iconic pairings.
